How to convert WebP to JPG
- Choose your WebP files or drop them on the page.
- Set the JPG quality and the background color for transparent areas if needed.
- Download the JPGs one by one, or all at once as a ZIP.
Why do you get WebP files?
Websites use WebP because the files are smaller: according to Google, lossy WebP images are 25–34 % smaller than JPGs of comparable quality. When you save a picture from a web page, you therefore often get a .webp file – even if it looked like a normal photo.
All current browsers show WebP, but older versions of image editors and office programs, many print services and plenty of upload forms only take JPG or PNG. Converting to JPG solves that.
Transparent and animated WebP files
- Transparency: JPG cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose. To keep transparency, convert WebP to PNG instead.
- Animation: animated WebP files are converted to a JPG of their first frame.
- Quality: 90 % (the default) keeps the image practically unchanged; the JPG is usually somewhat larger than the WebP.
Frequently asked questions
How can I save a website image as JPG instead of WebP?
Browsers save the format the website delivers. Save the WebP file, then convert it here – it takes a second and works for many images at once.
Do I lose quality when converting WebP to JPG?
Very little: at 90 % quality the difference is practically invisible. Converting cannot add detail, though – the JPG looks like the WebP.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
Yes, but JPG has no animation, so the result is a still image of the first frame.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The images are converted in your browser and never leave your device.
