iPhones save photos as HEIC, which many Windows PCs, websites and programs cannot open. Convert them to JPG in seconds – as many photos as you like, directly in your browser, without uploading them anywhere.

Photos are turned the right way up, and metadata such as the GPS location is not copied into the converted files.

Private: your data is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

    1. Choose your HEIC or HEIF photos, or drop them on the page – on an iPhone, straight from the photo library.
    2. Adjust the JPG quality if you like – 90 % is the default – and, optionally, a maximum size.
    3. Download each JPG, or all photos at once as a ZIP.

    What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's version of the HEIF format, compressed with HEVC (H.265). iPhones have used it as the standard photo format since iOS 11 in 2017, because a HEIC photo takes up about half the space of a JPG of similar quality.

The drawback is compatibility: Windows needs the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store to show HEIC, and many websites, upload forms and older programs reject it. This converter decodes HEIC in your browser – natively in Safari, and with a built-in decoder in other browsers, which is downloaded once (about 1.5 MB).

How to make your iPhone take JPG photos

    1. Open Settings › Camera › Formats.
    2. Choose Most Compatible. New photos are saved as JPG and videos as H.264.

Prefer to keep the space savings of HEIC? Leave the setting on High Efficiency and set Settings › Photos › Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic: photos copied to a computer with a cable are then converted to JPG on the fly. Photos you already took stay HEIC – convert them here.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?

Open this page in any browser, drop the HEIC files and download the JPGs – nothing needs to be installed. To view HEIC files in the Windows Photos app, install the HEIF and HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce the quality?

At the default quality of 90 %, the difference is practically invisible, but the JPG files are larger than the HEIC originals. Keep the originals if you want to archive your photos.

What happens to Live Photos and photo metadata?

Only the still image is converted – the moving part of a Live Photo is a separate video file. Photos are turned the right way up, and metadata such as the GPS location is not copied into the JPG.

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are decoded and converted on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
